I promise not all of my book choices are because of BookTok. This one was not….per se. So Ana Huang is blowing up on Social Media for her Twisted series and being me I want to start from book one, like most people. Unforunately, while I was browsing the limited book section at Walmart….they did not have Twisted Love but this series was right beside them so I figured I would give the author a try and order Twisted Love later (which I did! as well as the second in this series.)

She’s the wife he never wanted….and the weakness he never saw coming.

A ruthless CEO is forced into an engagement with a woman he barely knows, and their arragement turns into a passionate love affair.

This novel explores themes of Familial pressure, compromising morality for success and choosing vulnerability over wrath.

Let me just say….I finished this book in under 24 hours. I literally did not sleep. It’s one of those guilty pleasure typical rom-com type of books with a little added spice. I’m totally guilty of watching (and re-watching) those cheesy Netflix Christmas movies every year. You know the kind like The Princess Switch with Vanessa Hudgens. And this book followed a similiar guideline to those movies. I cannot wait to read the second and learn about Kai. But lets get into the review.

We  are introduced to Vivian in Chapter one as she’s managing a Gala, we are shown she’s a strong independent person who can handle a large gathering. We also learn that she has a very strong familial tie to her family by the end of the chapter. She feels obligated to her family (as she mentiions later). There is an arrange marriage, which was extremely common once upon a time, but not so much in today’s time.

I love that this is another Dual narrative. I read Fifty Shades of Grey series years ago when it came out, which is primarily in Ana’s point of view and I remember wanting to know what was going through Christian’s mind so bad….and then came the books of his POV which I of course jumped on. Being able to see Dante’s harsh exterior crack from his perspective as he began to fall for Vivian was ‘chef’s kiss’.

King of Wrath is a story of forced proximity, arranged marriage and enemies to lovers. The trifecta in regards to romance novels. I wouldn’t say that they’re enemies per se. They don’t really know each other but Dante is blackmailed into this and Vivian is doing this out of familial obligations. Their actual relationship growing is a slow burn.

Some things that I took away from the story are how it delved into the intricate dynamics of love, duty, and personal identity within the arranged marriage. The narrative slightly challenged the traditional notion of romance and explored the tension between what society expects and what we want as individual. I thought that this story examined the transformative power of love and the courage that is required to break free from family obligations. This story really drove hom the importance of honesty, vulnerability and mutual respect in building lasting relationships.

Ana Huang created a story about arranged marriage at the center. This drove the narrative and character development and was also the catalyst for exploring many themse of duty, love and freedom. Were they in this because of obligation, or were they choosing it for themselves? Through the dual narrative you can see when and how they toed the line of obligation and desire.  The blackmail that started the story was unknown to Vivian so she was unaware of how it controlled her story. But we were able to see how Dante processed the information and being stuck between revenge and the girl he wants.

This is an extremely bingeable book. You can easily find the time slipping away as you churn thru the chapters. The pacing is extremely fast and written pretty well. I really enjoyed the character Vivian and I hope she pops up later in the series. I do have to say there is one “spicy” scene that had me gagging. And that would be the limo scene…..I will leave that to you guys to read and understand why..
