What could be worse than an arranged marriage to a vampire prince?

When Luna i sold into marriage to the Prince of Darkness, she thinks she knows what to expect. Arranged marriages happen all the time, right? Wrong. No one could have prepared her for the reality of being married to the vampire prince.

Ever since the day he was Made, Sebastian has been living according to Queen Marguerite’s rles. After all, he’s only alive because of her. When she orders him to marry and Bind himself to Luna, a human hailing a neighborhood kingdom, he has no choice. He agrees to the marriage but never expects to feel anything for Luna.

When the Binding Ceremony goes awry, and they are magically Tethered, everything is thrown into an upheaval. Unable to leave each other’s presence, they must learn to live with each other. Or die.

I first got a glimpse of the book based on a social media clip talking about it. These clips are more like thirst traps…..but for books. It gives you just the slightest bit of information, and sometimes the steamiest, to get you hooked so the next thing you know…you’re jumping to Amazon or Barnes and Nobles to buy the book……which is exactly what I did. However, I was able to get the chronicles so its essentially all 3 books in one. But for the sake of reviewing, I’m going to look at each individual books by themselves.

Tethered is a slow burn, forced proximity fantasy romance. It has been forever since I read anything Vampire. In fact, the last vampire thing I consumed was a rewatch of The Vampire Diaries. Team Damon, right?? So I jumped at this book and read it like my life depended on it. I actually finished all 3 in less than a week and that was reading an hour before bed. While I did love the books as a simplerelaxation method, it was not without flaws. So before I get into what I didn’t like, I will get into what I loved.

I loved the dual narrative. From Luna’s POV Sebastian fits the dark, angsty, moody stereotype. So being able to see what it was like from his POV gave more insight as to why he was like that.

I loved Luna’s attitude. She has a “smart mouth” and it ‘gets her in trouble’ but she was only saying things I would have said. Her filter is non existent. And I like a female main character who has somewhat of a backbone, even if she really doesn’t. Being a smart a** can be a coping mechanism for the fact that her family sold her into marriage with a literal Vampire and for what?? The agreement didn’t seem like much.

I love that it ended on a cliff hanger, because if I hadn’t gotten the chronicles…it would have motivated me to buy the second book.

I loved that there was a sense that the Queen was the “big bad” but wasn’t fully discussed why she was in this one. It made me want to read the next in the series to see if my instinct was correct.

I love the forced proximity, “arranged marriage” aspect of it. The ‘this isn’t love at first sight.’ You got to see them go from tolerating each other to actually caring about each oter.

Now, on to things I wasn’t exactly fond of:

I found Sebastian frustrating in the sense that he could never just have a straight forward conversation with Luna. He was constantly telling her he’d discuss it later…..later didn’t come.

I wasn’t fond of the fact that there wasn’t any strong character development for the characters…..like at all. Luna was still the girl who didn’t want to be married to a vampire, didn’t like being around vampires, thought she was going to die because….vampires. And Sebastian was still a moody grumpy vampire.

I did not like how much phrases were repeated. Like being a ‘scholar’ or ‘for research’. Also refering to the bathroom as a bathing room. It was a little bleh.

Overall, I really did enjoy this book. It was a fast read, I would definitely recommend it if you are into fantasy, vampires, romance, forced proximity romance. It is a little on the YA side with basically zero spice.
